Privacy Policy
Sidefoot is a stats app for pickup soccer. This page explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, and what we do with it.
Who we are
Sidefoot is built and operated by VBO Advertising. If you have any question about your privacy or your data, email us at hello@sidefoot.app.
What we collect
When you leave your details through this site, we collect what you choose to enter:
- Your name and email address
- Your crew or team name (optional)
- What kind of phone you play on (optional)
- Anything you tell us about your games (optional)
When you use the app, we also store the information needed to run your crew, such as player names, game results, and the email address you sign in with.
If something breaks in the app, Sidefoot sends us an error report so we can fix it. It holds what went wrong, your account ID, which version of the app you are running, and your phone's operating system and its version. It does not hold the make or model of your phone. Anything that looks like an email address is stripped out before the report leaves your phone.
If you use Ask Sidefoot or the Match Official, we also keep a count of how many times your account used them that day, so we can apply the daily limit.
Where you are. On the Find tab, Sidefoot can read your phone's rough position to show you how far each listed crew plays from where you are. That happens on your phone and nowhere else. We do not save it, we never receive it, and it is gone the moment you leave the screen. Say no and the crews and the map still work, without the distances.
Putting your name in the pool. If you join the free agent pool, we store what you put in it: the name you want crews to see, your city, how you rate your own game, and the line you write about yourself. Crew admins in your city can see that listing while it is live. Take your name out and they stop seeing it, and we keep your answers so putting your name back later is quick.
Asking to join, and messaging a crew. If you ask to join a crew, we store your name, which of the five ways you asked, and anything you write with the request. If you message a crew's admins, or they answer you, we store those messages so the thread is still there next time. The crew's admins can see both. Nobody else in the crew can.
Where your crew plays. A crew admin can give the crew a venue: a name, an address, and a pin on the map. The venue name and the pin are what other players see when they browse crews in your city, and the name also shows on the crew's own share page. The address stays inside the crew.

What your crew and others can see
- Share links. A crew admin can share the crew's table, a single game result, or the crew itself as a link. Anyone with that link can open the page in a browser without signing in. The table page shows the crew's name, the names on the table as they appear on the team sheet, and the results. The crew page shows the crew's name, its city, where it plays, how it describes itself, how many players and games it has, and whether it is taking players. These pages are hidden from search engines and can only be reached through the link.
- Getting a name or a record taken down. Ask your crew admin, or email hello@sidefoot.app and we'll take it down.
The Match Official
Two features use an AI model made by Anthropic.
- Asking about your stats: when you ask a question, your question and your crew's stat sheet (player names and game results) are sent to Anthropic, who generate the answer and send it back. Sidefoot doesn't save your question.
- The Match Official: when a crew admin pastes a game write-up from the group chat, or sends a photo of one, that text or photo is sent to Anthropic to be read, along with the names on the crew's team sheet. Anything the admin types to the Official afterwards goes to Anthropic the same way. Sidefoot doesn't save the write-up, the photo or those replies. Only the game the admin checks and logs is saved.
Anthropic do not use this information to train their models. Both features only ever see crews you belong to, and they are never given your email address. If you'd rather your data didn't go to Anthropic, don't use these two features; everything else in Sidefoot works without them.
Reporting a reply. Every reply from Ask Sidefoot and the Match Official has a Report link under it. If you use it, we keep that reply and anything you typed with it, so we can look into it. Your crew cannot see it. If you delete your account later, the report stays with us, but it is no longer linked to you.
Reporting and blocking
Reporting someone's words. Anything another player writes in Sidefoot carries a Report link: a free agent listing, the line that comes with a request to join, a message, and a crew's own description. When you report something we keep a copy of what was written, the note you added if you added one, and which version of the app you were on, so we can still look at it if the author changes or deletes it afterwards. The person you report is not told who reported them. If you delete your account later, the report stays with us, but it is no longer linked to you.
Blocking. Blocking someone stops their free agent listing showing up for you and closes the messages between you, in both directions. They are not told. We keep the list of people you have blocked, you are the only one who can see it, and you can undo any of it from your account.
How it is handled
Your early-access request is sent to our team by email. We use a small number of trusted service providers to make Sidefoot work, and your information is shared with them only for that purpose:
- Resend: delivers our emails (your request, and your sign-in codes)
- Supabase: stores your crew's data and runs the app's services
- Vercel: hosts this website, including the pages behind share links
- Expo: delivers updates to the app. Each time the app checks for an update, your phone sends Expo a random number that identifies the installation, not you
- Anthropic: powers Ask Sidefoot and the Match Official, as described above
- Google Analytics: measures visits to this website, as described below
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets its own cookies to recognise a return visit and records things like the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you are on. We use it to see whether the site is doing its job, nothing more.
We have turned off the setting that would share this data with Google for their own product and advertising purposes. This site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not build advertising profiles about you. Alongside this we may use the minimal cookies our hosting needs to serve the site reliably.
If you would rather not be counted, you can install Google's opt-out browser add-on, or block analytics cookies in your browser settings. The site works exactly the same either way.
Keeping it safe
Your information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and is stored with reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and to limit who can access it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your Sidefoot account from inside the app at any time, from your account screen. You do not need to ask us. Deleting removes your sign-in, your email address, and your membership of every crew.
You do not need the app to do this. If you have deleted the app, or you cannot get into it, email us at hello@sidefoot.app and ask us to delete your Sidefoot account. Write from the email address on the account so we know it is you. If you signed in as a guest and never gave us an email address, send us the name of your crew instead and we will find you. We delete the account within 30 days of your request, and usually within a few days.
Your crew's game history stays with the crew, because it belongs to everyone who played those games, but your personal link to it is removed. If you were the only admin of a crew, someone else is handed admin so the crew is never left stranded. If you were its only member, the crew is deleted with you.
Your other choices
You can also ask us to show you the information we hold about you, or correct it. Email hello@sidefoot.app and we will take care of it.
Children
Sidefoot is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
As Sidefoot grows, we may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.
